Check the interior design course entry requirement against your KCSE results and the exact programme level before you apply.
1. Find the exact programme
Check the entry route on the institution’s current programme page. KENCID lists C− or a relevant certificate for its diploma, D plain or a foundation certificate for its certificate, and D− for its foundation course. BIFA lists C− plus artistic talent and an interview for diploma consideration, and D+ plus talent and an interview for certificate consideration. The University of Nairobi’s four-year Bachelor route lists C+ with C+ in Mathematics, English/Swahili and a qualifying subject cluster. It also lists alternative routes involving relevant certificates and diplomas. These are published requirements, not guarantees of admission; send your results to admissions and ask which route applies to you.
2. Gather the requested documents
Depending on the institution, you may need identification, academic results, certificates or evidence of an equivalent qualification. Ask whether copies must be certified and how international or previous qualifications are assessed. Do not send original documents unless the institution instructs you to do so through its official process.
3. Ask about creative preparation
Some programmes may request an interview, portfolio or other evidence; others may not. Confirm the requirements rather than assuming that polished professional work is necessary. If a portfolio is requested, label school and personal projects honestly.
4. Verify the programme and cost
Ask who awards the qualification and how to check its current recognition. Request the full fee schedule, course duration, intake date, timetable and any material, software or placement costs. These details can change.
5. Explore the profession
IDAK provides a starting point for professional development and membership information. Use it alongside direct conversations with schools and practising designers to understand the skills you want to develop.
